Guzmania is a popular genus of bromeliad, also known as “Orange Star, “and named after the Spanish naturalist, Anastatsio Guzman. Guzman extensively travelled throughout South America and died while on an expedition in Ecuador in 1807. A short time after his death colleagues named this genus of bromeliad in his honour.

 

Striking bracts grow from the center of the plant and can be red, yellow, orange, or deep purple depending on the species. Leaves are thin and dark green. With proper care, these tropical beauties are hardy and easy to grow houseplants that add a colorful accent to indoor spaces.
